Ever.

You might have heard a truckload full of complaints about the chef, who is also the owner, having a nasty attitude. Are those rumors true, you ask? Well, the answer is yes. The chef tends to burst into sudden moments of fit and to avoid getting a nose full of wasabi from him, there are some rules that we as the customers must abide by. Not to take our own sweet time with the ordering; not to speak too loudly; not to place our bag or other barang barang on the table.

Troublesome? However, it is one of the reasons (or attractions) to frequent the restaurant. You never know what you will get. Keeps you on your toes. Also, the size of the restaurant is limited, it only serves up to 15-16 people at one round. So be prepared to bump into fellow diners and to witness a long queue outside the small cramp restaurant during peak hours.

Now on to the food.

Chawanmushi – Japanese Style Steamed Egg Custard

A bowl of steaming hot eggs filled with the freshest of ingredients. Bits of prawns, mushrooms and a form of Japanese agar jelly give the dish texture. Cow is not a big fan of chawanmushi in general as the eggy taste gets a little revolting after a while. However the chawanmushi served at Wasabi Tei has the right formula to retain the fragrance even till the last mouth of bite! The Chawanmushi here are only made upon order so it may take a while. Highly recommended though, waste the wait!

Salmon Sashimi – Raw Salmon Slices

The word ‘FRESH’ best describes the dish. The chef is fierce but he is definitely generous with the cut - thick salmon slices. Sweet and springy, and each slice has a pretty nice balance of fat and meat. The best thing is, it is relatively cheap but we can't really recall the price. Opps. Well, Sheep ain't a fan of raw fish yet this dish deserves thumbs up. So far, most probably the best price for the quality served.

Nigiri Set

Other than fresh Salmon, Tuna and Mackerel are also usual fish in the Nigiri Set. Altogether, six pieces of Nigiri and six pieces of Tuna Maki. Served with seasoned ginger by the side.

California Maki Sushi

Never though a combination of rice, roe, avocado, crabstick, cucumber and Japanese mayonnaise can be this heavenly good! Simple but the key to the dish is to have fresh ingredients. The roe are salty and retain the squashy-ness. Totally YUM! This dish is one of our favorites. A ‘must order’ for us.

Cod fish Hot Pot

This is served in a steaming hot claypot. The thick white chunks of cod fish, seaweeds and chunks of vegetables combine to give a mouth watering aroma. However, Sheep finds the stock/soup a little too sweet. Again, this is only cooked upon order. May take a while.

Grilled Unagi

A Japanese restaurant is not complete without unagi. Wasabi Tei serves nicely glossed eel in Teriyaki Sauce. The texture is a tad more chewy as compared to the other unagi in other restaurants. It's not too bad a try, nonetheless.

- Note that customers can only order ONCE.

Complimentary Side dish that comes with the set meal: Braised Seaweeds or Seasoned Scallop.

~Overall Verdict~

White Sheep says...
Food: <img style="WIDTH: 27px;
